In part three of our 2012 WCT Preview and Shit series, we take a look at Trestles, France and Portugal. We gain some real insights with this section and actually take our predictions a little further…
Sept 16 – 22, 2012 – Hurley Pro – Trestles, CA
Back in the USA bitches! Slater has won this event the last two years and if he hasn’t quit and started his own tour by now, look for him to make another run. Kolohe Andino will try to make his biggest statement of the year at Trestles with a win as he is very familiar with this wave. Fanning also surfs well at here and did win it back in 2009, came in 3rd in 2010 and placed 5th in 2011. Owen Wright and Bede have also surfed well and could be factors into the later heats. John John will push himself in until the 4th round and then become bored with the whole thing. It will all come down to sweet, Brazilian love baby.
Trestles Final Heat: Andino vs. Medina with Gabriel taking Kolohe down like a Cub-Scout Master at a campout. Medina starts claiming his victory two days before the Hurley Pro even begins.
Sept 28 – Oct 8, 2012 – Quiksilver Pro – France
The land of luscious silky-red Bordeaux wine and long-legged women! This is the only place that you can legally surf drunk. Just ask Eugene Fanning as he did it in 2010 and won the event while taking out a sober Slater as well as taking down Bede in 2009 for the win! But France 2011 was the time and place that young Gabriel Medina came out and showed everyone why the Brazzos are the best surfers in the world and will own all of professional surfing in five years or as long as Renato Hickel has any say in the matter. Look for Perrow to start blowing… err to blow-away the judges with some heavy moves while Slater, Wright and Jadson make pushes into the quarters. Jordy will have one too many bottles of wine and surf naked one evening while Chas Smith secretly shoots a flare gun off to expose Jordy’s private quiver. Jordy. Totally. Won’t. Care.
France Final Heat: Perrow vs. Medina – Does anyone really care at this point? Medina takes Perrow down faster than a Catholic Priest during his first semester of seminary.
Oct 10 – 21, 2012 – Rip Curl Pro – Peniche, Portugal
In 2011, Adriano de Souza took out his nemesis, Kelly Slater, to win his second event of the year. Taj, Bede, Bourez and Heitor also surfed well in France. John John will ramp-up his air game in what will be mediocre waves while Medina will make a push into the quarters showing everyone why he will have no less than 20 WCT Championships before he is thirty years old. Andino will get amazingly lost in Portugal and totally miss the event. Owen Wright is also realize that no one really cares about him and his luck in 2011 was just that. Slater who won the event in 2010, will push his way into another final. Melling and Parko will go on a tear in Portugal as if they were huffing cans of Cool Whip but not make it out of the quarters. Slater will get inspired after reading Oprah’s latest book and surf like he was 25 years old again.
Portugal Final Heat: Slater vs. Flores and Flores will take it down to the wire as Slater breaks one of his six fins and can only surf in circles. Flores finishes with a four-foot floater and claims it as if he were of the Brazilian heritage.
