I have my doubts. Going back to the days of Fatty Arbuckle, Hollywood produced and/or attracted thousands like Bob Crane before he got his first role and nurtured thousands more after his death. The John Birch Society, CWA, the "Evangelics", Ronald Regan and the MPAA could barely trust each other and had much bigger fish to fry than Bob Crane. Let's face it, the guy led a dangerous life. While some of the fun he liked to have could theoretically be kept harmless, most of it tends to attract some scary characters; he probably pissed off (or just made a good target for) the wrong person at the wrong time.
