Is the ASP a Cult?

Webster’s defines Cult: great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book).
Names like Jim Jones, Adolf Hitler, Charles Manson, David Koresh and L. Ron Hubbard are all known as cult leaders. They were able to grow their ‘believer’ base in many controlling ways. No matter how whacked out their doctrines were, they were still able to gain followers.
Jim Jones of the Peoples Temple and later the Guyana incident fell in love with communism. Jones was becoming frustrated with the ways communists in the US were being treated. He wanted a way to demonstrate his beliefs. So Jones started a religion.
Propaganda can be an awesome tool. Adolf Hitler was one of the world’s most infamous leaders. His primary objective was to establish a ‘New Order’ of Nazi Germany. One race. He gained support by promoting German Nationalism with his charismatic oratory and propaganda. As D-Day at Normandy beach was happening, Hitler would communicate to the people of Germany how well they were defending the beaches. How proud he was. In truth, they were not defending their front very well. The Allied forces were methodically destroying it. The Allies were advancing. Slowly but surely.
Charlie Manson is a Cult icon. When you think of the word cult, Manson’s name will come to mind for most people. Scientology was also intertwined into Chas Manson’s belief structure. He studied it while in prison. Manson also spoke of the great Race War that was to come. Charlie had the aid of drugs to help ease the minds of his followers. Acid was a popular drug of the time along with the ever popular reefer.
Let’s look at the ASP now. Are they a cult? Is Brodie Carr the David Koresh? I would say probably not. But there are some unique similarities.
Does the ASP use propaganda? Yes. Does the ASP control its flock if spoken out against its ideas? Yes. What happened to Kelly Slater once the Rebel Tour rumors came to life? Did the ASP severe it’s relationship with Slater? Did Kelly become the ASP black sheep? Brodie Carr is calling the shots along with Rip Curl, Billabong, etc.. It is their game and if you don’t play by their rules they will take their fucking ball home. Is it time to put the ASP in timeout? Is this like a 6 year old making up their own rules since it’s their backyard?
Could the Prince of Poontang be ASP’s Rommel? Well, Rommel did participate in a planning to kill Hitler. Kelly isn’t trying to kill Brodie Carr. But he is trying to shove the ASP principles back up Carr’s ass. We know that if one speaks out against the ASP then that individual is black-balled. Watching the final heat of the Pipeline Masters, we noticed something strange. Near the end of that heat against Taj, Kelly takes a pretty good drop into a wave and stalls to pull back into a smallish tube. Get’s barreled for a few and pulls out to complete his wave. Score came in around a 3.55 or something like that. Really? Guys were getting higher scores than that with a decent drop and big bottom turn. WTF?
Jamie O’Brien loves the ASP. Loves them! Brodie was seen jacking off after JO’B didn’t advance during his heat. Jamie shows his feelings towards the ASP on his upcoming movie teaser.
The latest rumor is that Carr made likebitchin.com go away. He wasn’t happy with their humor.
Carr was overheard on the North Shore saying he would get the last laugh against Kelly. Did the ASP get the last laugh with that pissy score? I’m sure Kelly is over the ASP. Even if the RT doesn’t fly, Slater is over Brodie.
So the question is, are you drinking the ASP koolaid???
