Wanderlei Silva vs. Michael Bisping – UFC 110 Preview

UFC 110 - Silva vs Bisping
Silva vs. Bisping was scheduled to be the main event at UFC 105 in Manchester, England, but due to Wanderlei undergoing facial surgery, it had to be put off. Contrary to popular gossip, Wanderlei did not have the surgery to become just another “pretty face”. He had the medical procedure done to remove built up scar tissue in his face, which leads to cuts opening much quicker in a fight.
Now, the fight has been set to take place at UFC 110. Yoshihiro Akiyama was also being mentioned as a suitable opponent for Wanderlei to fight at UFC 110. Either fight would be an interesting matchup and definitely would deliver much action. Wanderlei is a fighter who is not scared to take on any opponent in the UFC. You put a fighter in front of him and he will show you why he is referred to as “The Axe Murderer”.
Although coming over to the UFC from Pride, Wanderlei has not dominated the UFC as many people thought he would have, but he still brings the same fierce warrior’s heart and soul into his matches. His fight against Chuck Lidell proved “The Axe Murderer” will keep chopping at you until the final bell. I gained even more respect for him after the matchup and in my opinion he should have gotten the decision over Rich Franklin in that fight.

Wanderlei The Axe Murderer Silva
As a fight fan, I would have loved to see Wanderlei continue Bisping’s power naps in the cage with an explosive KO at UFC 105, picking up where Dan Henderson left off. In reality, I’m glad the fight did not happen. Bisping suffered a vicious KO by the fists of Dan Henderson and luckily was able to recover from it. If the fight would have taken place at UFC 105, Bisping may have suffered irreparable damage to his fighting career and the hopes of England would have been dashed away. Instead, Bisping took on Dennis Kang at UFC 105 and came out with a win and minimal damage.
The UFC UK needs to have a headline fighter to help keep the UK on the map with the fans. England is looking for their first UFC champion and their hopes rely on Bisping and Dan Hardy shining as superstars. Bisping continuing his winning streak is a must for him and the country he represents. The fight between Wanderlei and Bisping needs to be a big success because it will hopefully help Bisping get on the road to a title shot once again, as long as he can WIN!

Michael Bisping
Wanderlei will come out as aggressive as usual looking to excite the fans and definitely chop Bisping’s head off. In a recent interview done by Steve Barry, Wanderlei expressed some feelings on the fight at UFC 110 – “My friends and fans come in here and I tell them, ‘Hey, I’m going to fight Michael Bisping,’ and guys tell me, ‘Hey, kick his ass.’ I don’t know what is this so much, but for my fans, I’m going to kick Bisping’s ass.” Wanderlei has no qualms about going all out to finish a fight and his opponent.
Bisping better bring his A+ game and be prepared for an all out war with Wanderlei if he wants to take home a win. Hopefully, Bisping learned his lesson from his fight with Henderson and realized in his next fight that Kang didn’t finish him off when he was in trouble. Bisping….PLEASE, don’t try and stand with fighters who have no fear, punching power and all the desire to knock you out. Work the ground game and go for a possible submission or ground and pound stoppage.
