Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. Over the last couple of years, MMA sports have become more and more popular with many Pro Surfers. Some use the MMA training as a way to stay in shape while some others may just like to grind up against other males. To each is own I guess. We are also aware of the largely popular UFC organization along with their successful PPV events, TV shows, Apparel sales, DVD sales and the list goes on.

Nothing but love...

Take a look at the current state of the ASP and it’s surfing events. It is arguably one of the most boring of sporting events around. For the most part, their surfers are all clean cut kids. Not really any type of drama around it. I don’t want to upset anyone but the ASP has scripts just like Vince Mc’s WWE. Just like NASCAR has scripts. You honestly think Mick Fanning is better than half of the guys he is surfing against? Step away from the bong. They have written Slater out of the script like he was a dead actor on a sitcom. Parko is next to be written off. BEWARE: If your a pro surfer and you don’t pledge your allegiance to the ASP, you will be blackballed! Just look at the surfers like the Irons, Machado, JO’B and others that have basically said fuck the ASP. They won’t be controlled. They won’t be puppets.

You have new organizations like the XSA which incorporate MMA into their surf events. The XSA just complete their first successful event this past month in Chile. Another new surf organization called ‘Dropout’ in Nias is now forming that will mandate each surfer to compete in two – 3 minutes MMA rounds prior to their surfing heats. You can’t fake an ass whipping.

When Dana White and his group purchased the UFC, they did so for a million or two. It has been said on CNBC that the UFC is now valued around one billion dollars. So it was only a matter before someone put the two together on a another scale. Pay Per View MMA-Surfing Events. One PPV event will pull in more viewers than the ASP has had in one year. Our guess is that now Brodie Carr of the ASP will drop an application at Wal-Mart as a customer greeter. When is the last time Brodie has been innovative with anything that will grow surfing to outside of it’s normal click?

So now we have learned from 2 separate sources that a company called SN Fight Sports is putting together an event to be run during Pipeline this December. 12 of the World’s top free surfers will compete in the water. The proposed main event would be five – 5 minute rounds of MMA action between Kala Alexander of the North Shore’s beloved Wolfpak and Aussieworld’s Bra Boy leader Koby Abberton. It will be called a “Loser Shut Da Fuck Up” match. It appears that there is some historical bad blood between the Aussieworld clan and the North Shore organizations. The belief is that it is because Mark Richards and Rabbit were pricks during the 1970′s and upset many people during that time. This is not the thoughts of the DemonFactory but just what was said back then and it seems to be heating up again.

Fueling this fire as of late has been numerous surf blogs where many a bashing has been occurred. Some of the classic one liners being dropped are: “What’s the difference between Aussies and pigs? Pigs don’t turn into Aussies when they drink”, “Why do birds fly upside down over Australia? It’s not worth shitting on”, “Why was the Christ child not born in Australia? You’d have enough of a job finding three wise men, much less a virgin!” Can’t you just see and feel the love there?

We’ve tried to reach Charlie Smith who is one of the writers at Stab Magazine and LikeBitchin for any thing that he may have heard since he has been around Brodie over the last few ASP events. No luck.

Beach Brawl is having some issues of location for the event. The promoter said that he would like to run it at Pipeline the week before ASP holds their December event. Their belief is they will get showcase the world’s best free surfers and top MMA fighters around and anything shown after will be mundane. One pro surfer was asked his thoughts on the event and he said “… That is going to be fuckin sick brah!” and another said “I’m all over that shit“.

Current issue: the Bra Boys want a neutral place to hold the event. Someone from the Wolfpak said that Pipeline is the best place and that they will make sure that the event remains fair and balanced. Trust them.

This will be a four day festival which is rumored to have musical concerts as well. They will have Rap – 50cent, Snoop Dogg, Reggie – Ziggy Marley and Rock bands – Sublime, 311, Blink 182, DMB and with the event headliner being Pearl Jam. The entire event will be free in person.

None of our phone calls were returned to the NS offices in an attempt to gather more details on this event. However, we did receive an email back from the President of the NS. All is said was “Tell Brodie that we send our love and sympathy.”.
