JO'B - Redbull's Crossover Athlete?
We’ve gotten wind of the latest Rumor surrounding Jamie O’Brien and his ever-changing life. He may be on to something again. JO’B seems to always stay a step ahead of everyone else. A trendsetter? We are not saying that but how often do you see Jamie following the crowd. This mysterious athlete has started to stir the rumor mill again. Well, maybe it is us who stir the rumors….
It seems that Jamie’s May/June ’09 Bali trip has sparked a new passion. Moto! Jamie spent endless hours on a scooter in Bali and could be found at all hours of the night riding through town. Jamie also started ‘TWS’ (twittering while scooting) on his scooter.
Late one evening Jamie was out cruising through town. He became distracted while trying to make sense of another Quincytets message. Jamie then looked up to see a car headed straight for him blowing the horn. To miss the car, he abruptly swerved to the right side of the street and jumped the curb onto sidewalk. When he hit the curb, his cell phone flew out of his hand. Not wanting to lose another Boost phone, while in mid-air, Jamie performed a new trick that he has named ‘The JO’B Boost Air’. It is very similar to the Moto-X trick called the Superman. The difference with this ‘trick’ is that Jamie was totally off on the right side of the bike. He held onto the scooter with only the left hand and grabbed his cell with the right. That was all that it took for Pro Surfing’s Aerial Master. The light bulb went off in his head.
JO'B Warming Up Bali-Style
JO’B said the entire ‘Boost Air’ event gave him almost as much of a rush as surfing the Pipe. He said the entire event happened in slow motion. He went on for the next several evenings practicing his new air maneuvers. While everyone else was sleeping, he could be found perfecting his signature move ‘The JO’B Boost Air’. He was also overheard talking about another move that he has called the ‘Red Bull Shuffle’. We do not know what that consists of at this time.
Jamie came back to the states with a new vision. He wants to crossover into Moto. We know he was in So Cal for the US Open. We know he was at Red Bull’s corporate offices for some kind of meetings. We also know that he was at Rusty’s corporate offices as well. Oh, and what about that so called Red Bull roast for Travis Pastrana??? Now things were starting to connect….
We now take you to part two. Fact #1, Jamie stayed in LA for another week after the US Open had concluded. Which by the way, Mick Fanning didn’t win. Fact #2, the X-Games were in LA the next weekend. We understand that O’Brien spent several hours out with Pastrana. Each time these two were spotted together in traffic, they were in a truck pulling a trailer with 2 dirt bikes. This happened on three separate occasions.
JOB Practices his air for H2O-Moto
We followed yet another tip from an inside source about Jamie’s meeting with Red Bull executives. O’Brien called everyone together to propose the creation of a new type extreme sport. It would be a cross between jet-skiing and moto-x. Jamie will call it…. H20-Moto. A name that Jamie and Charlie Smith developed one late evening after many Red Bulls. Jamie will lead this new team as well as oversee all future development. JO’B has also indicated that he will run marketing, PR, broadcasting, website development as well as modeling for this new organization. He was overheard as saying something like “If the fucking ASP can get away will putting out their shitty product, I will look like a genius here and put out a far superior product for the fans…”. But, that is strictly heresay. There’s also a chance that he will be added to some of the Red Bull X-Fighters events that occur when water is nearby. Red Bull see’s great value in having someone that can be involved in two sports… Surfing and Moto.
JO'B gives new meaning to Hydroplane
Jamie’s experience on the water as well his countless ‘scooter’ hours spent in Bali have the Red Bull players very excited. JO’B can travel to one place and perform in two different events. That’s value. The Red Bull executives were floored to find out that Jamie already had one signature trick and was fine-tuning his second (Red Bull Shuffle)
